Shag - Improver

Class description

Collegiate Shag is a lively and energetic swing dance that originated in the USA in the 1920s and 1930s. With its characteristic bounce, quick footwork and playful partner dynamics, Shag brings energy to any dance floor. It is usually danced in closed position and thrives on rhythm, groove – and a touch of humour. It is typically danced to faster swing tunes in the range of 180–250 BPM. It also features a double-time rhythm: ‘slow slow quick quick’.

Prerequisites

• Courses attended: Shag Newcomer or equivalent
• I feel comfortable with: Basic, Send out & Take In, Tuck Turn, Pass By
• Comfortable tempo: Swing Paradise (Slow Version) (faster than 160 BPM)
